Play Like a Girl and Cardinia Council Lead the Way with Fair Access Policy Roadmap

Our recent collaboration with Cardinia Council is a shining example of how local governments can work with organisations like ours to bring substantial value to their communities.

Collaboration with Cardinia Council: Empowering Women and Girls

We are pleased to share news of our collaboration with Cardinia Council and the value we're providing for women and girls in their local area.

Cardinia Council has implemented some terrific initiatives already, including the Women and Girls in Sport and Participation Network, which invites local stakeholders to meet, network, and share experiences.

Women and Girls in Sport and Participation Network

Mel Pratt is the driving force behind the Women and Girls in Sport and Participation Network. This network invites key stakeholders from their LGA to gather, upskill, and network. The Women and Girls in Sport and Participation Network empowers its members to have a voice and advocate for positive change in inclusion, policy, research, activation, and gender equality.

This network is particularly helpful for all parties now that the Fair Access Policy is mandatory, and Victorian councils must have gender-equitable access and use policies in place to qualify for infrastructure funding. It enables clubs and stakeholders to come together and explore how they are implementing the roadmap and how they can learn from each other.

Extending Opportunities with Play Like a Girl Australia

In a powerful collaboration, Cardinia Council has teamed up with Play Like a Girl Australia to extend the opportunities available to members of the network by providing them with a membership to the Play Like a Girl Australia community. This nationwide community is the first of its kind and offers women and girls from all sports a place to learn, grow, and thrive. Key benefits include:

  • Monthly Leadership Development Opportunities: Regular sessions to enhance leadership skills.
  • Resource Library: A comprehensive collection of resources tailored for women and girls in sport.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connections with our nationwide community of women and girls in sport.
  • Virtual Space Facilitation: A platform for the network to stay connected and share resources.

Participant Feedback

Here is some feedback from a recent participant:"I am just emailing you to say that I am absolutely loving the PLAG membership. My friend has the full membership and has weekly huddles in which she has greatly benefited from, and I believe I will too."
